Government invests in enhanced UK Business Climate Hub to support SMEs with rising costs and resilience challenges

19 May 2026

The UK Business Climate Hub has relaunched with an enhanced website designed to help small and medium-sized businesses reduce costs, improve resilience and grow through practical action on sustainability.

Supported by the UK Government and delivered by the Broadway Initiative in collaboration with business groups and industry partners, the Hub provides a single, trusted place for SMEs to access clear and practical guidance.

A practical response to current business pressures

The relaunch comes at a time of heightened concern over energy prices and wider input costs for many SMEs. At the same time, customers and supply chains are increasingly expecting businesses to evidence action on sustainability, presenting both opportunities and challenges.

The UK Business Climate Hub is designed to support businesses at these moments, providing practical steps they can take to manage costs and improve resilience.

What the Hub provides

The refreshed platform brings together:

  • guidance on reducing energy use and cutting costs
  • tools to help businesses measure, plan and act
  • case studies showing what has worked in practice
  • information on finance, funding and support

Research shows that while many SMEs want to take the sort of practical sustainability action that saves money and boosts growth, they often struggle to know where to start or how to access the right support. The Hub addresses this gap by bringing together practical information in one place.

Supporting business growth and competitiveness

Every element of the Hub is designed to support growth through practical sustainability measures. Reducing energy use, improving efficiency and responding to supply chain requirements are increasingly central to how businesses manage costs and remain competitive.

Minister for Industry Chris McDonald said: “SMEs are the backbone of our economy and businesses and together with the UK Business Climate Hub we are helping them to cut their energy bills for good. The relaunched site will provide an enhanced one-stop-shop to help businesses improve their sustainability, reduce energy usage and drive growth.”

Chris Taylor, Project Director at the Broadway Initiative, said: “As the UK’s central source of government-backed sustainability guidance for SMEs, the Hub connects businesses with the tools and support they need to act, whether they are just starting out or looking to take the next steps in optimising their costs, efficiency and resilience.”

We strongly welcome the publication of the Government’s Land Use Framework for England. The Framework’s focus on integration over trade-offs aligns closely with our own submission , developed with partners across farming, development, infrastructure and environmental sectors.

This week’s publication of the Carbon Budget and Growth Delivery Plan and last week's launch of the Sector Transition Plans represent two parts of the same story: the UK moving from climate ambition to coordinated delivery.
